Stories for Life

Today money is with you

Naran S Balakumar

A great disciple of Guruvayurappa – a case history

It happened about 150 years back.

The disciple is such a great devotee of Lord Guruvayurappa that he will not eat his food without saying ‘Narayana’. Moreover, throughout the day he will utter the word ‘Guruvayurappa’.

Every day, he will put some money in the Hundial kept for Guruvayurappa with an intention that on the day he visits the temple of Guruvayurappa, he will offer it to Lord Guruvayurappa (by putting the Hundial kept in the temple).

He collected like this over a period of 10 years. He decided to visit the temple and travelled to Trichur.

On visiting the temple, he kept the purse in the banks of the pond inside the people, as he was about to take his bath in the pond.

This custom of taking the bath is followed in this part of the world as one can see the lord only after taking a bath.

After finishing the bath, he found that his purse was missing. He searched everywhere and could not find it at all.

He was shocked and complained to lord, “All these 10 years I had been collecting this money to offer to you Lord. Now, it is lost. How I am going to do the offering to you. Are you there or not?”

That night he slept in the temple. Guruvayurappa came in his dream.

He said, “The person who took the money also prayed to me. I did not know from where I can give the money to him. Around the same time, you had come to offer the money to me.

“So, I directed the money to the person who prayed to me for money. Your offering (of money) has come to me. Now, I had directed the money to him and he had taken it”.

Divine flow of money

Money was with you yesterday. Today it is with him. Tomorrow it may be with somebody. In addition, it has to travel to others eventually – never staying in one place.

Story of Prahalad

Naran S Balakumar

If you have this attitude money will come to you

You need to have a strong belief that money belongs to Lakshmi or Divine. Only on that basis you need to build your prosperity consciousness.

Is there anybody who practiced that? To my knowledge only two persons practiced that. You know very well they are not here. They cannot be.

Story of Prahalad

Who is that person, who totally believed that Mahalakshmi or the divine is the source of money? It is Prahalad, who is a Rakshasa (Asura).

What is the difference between Devas and Asuras?

Asuras can create wealth, but they will not distribute it to anybody. Devas cannot create money like us. However, they can give it to others.

Vayu – air, is a Deva, because it is always giving. After Hiranyakashipu, his son Prahalad became the king of Asuras. He became so powerful and prosperous.

He became so wealthy, while at the same time, Lord Indra lost his kingdom Amaravati. This means, the entire world belonged to Prahalad, who attracted everything and got everything.

Prahalad was the only person at that time who was blessed 100% by Mahalakshmi.

Mahavishnu was ready to give a boon to Prahalad

Narasimha Avatar took place. Mahavishnu killed Hiranyakashipu in front of his son Prahalad. Father was killed in front of his son by Lord Vishnu and son prayed to Lord Vishnu.

Mahavishnu asked Prahalad, “What do you want?”

Prahalad weeping replied to him, “I have the devotion for you without an intention to bargain with you. Whatever you want to give it to me, you please give that to me.

“Even to utter these words, I feel weakened that I have asked you to give me anything you think. I am not devoted to you for the sake of anything. I only want you – you alone”.

That’s why he was blessed by Mahalakshmi and was called for the same reason as Shriman Prahalad.

Lord Indra tricks Prahalad

Meanwhile, Lord Indra was worried about his lost wealth.

He wanted to find out why Prahalad was so prosperous. He disguised himself as a priest and went to Prahalad to give him some work.

He served Prahalad so well that Prahalad decided to give Indra a boon. Indra asked Prahalad “Please tell me the secret of your prosperity”.

Prahalad replied to Indra, “I performed my deeds in line with dharma.

“I handled money with the highest devotion keeping Lord Narayana in my heart, while keeping in mind the basic principle that ‘None of this wealth is mine and everything belongs to Sri Mahalakshmi.

“This devotion keeps me prosperous”.

On hearing this Lord Indra, “Can you give me the benefit of this devotion to me (as your boon)?”

Instead of asking directly for money, Indra asked Prahalad to give that devotion and that principle to him. Prahalad gave that to Indra, and so Mahalakshmi left Prahalad.

Indra became prosperous and powerful, and got back his kingdom Amaravati.

Whenever there is money or wherever there is Lakshmi, Alakshmi always follows her in the form of ego and pride.

When you think ‘It is my money or it is my hard-earned money’, Alakshmi follows you. That’s why you need to keep the attitude, ‘This is not my money’. If I want it, the divine will give the money to me.

Alakshmi took over Indra

This is what happened to Indra. How Alakshmi did come to him?

Indra used to always drink, amusing himself with angels of heaven. After getting money, everybody does the same thing isn’t it?

Wherever the Kettai star is prominent – say for example South Africa and other African countries, you will see?

One particular day, Sage Durvasa – who is well-known for his anger, came to see Indra. The sage gave a garland worn by Mahalakshmi to Indra.

Indra was fully drunk and lost his mind watching the angels dancing.

So he without realizing, he threw the garland away, which fall at the feet of his elephant Airavata. It took it in its trunk, threw it on the ground and trampled it with its feet.

Having insulted by Indra, Durvasa cursed him, “You didn’t understood the power of wealth bestowed upon you. Let Mahalakshmi abandon you”.

Then you know the story how Mahalakshmi disappeared into Parkadal (ocean of milk) and appeared again when the Parkadal was churned by Asuras and Devas and Amirtham was brought out.

Unless this point is followed by you, you won’t be happy with the money. You may find money, but you will not be happy, till you develop this principle (attitude).

Story about Sree Ram Jay Ram Mantra in Ramayana

Naran S Balakumar

The monkeys went in search of Sita. They were given sometime to do the search and yet they couldn’t find Sita at all.

When they reached the sea near Ramanathapuram – a place or line that divides India and Sri Lanka, they stopped there, the southern tip of India.

They talked to themselves saying that without finding Sita, they can’t go back to Sugreeva – their king. Therefore, they decided to commit suicide.

At that time, they were discussing about Rama, Sita, Ravana and Jatayu.

There was a giant eagle called as Shambaathi, in the nearby hillock, which was without its wings, and thus it could only move and could not fly also.

It was listening to the monkeys.

A few hundred years back, there was a competition between Jatayu and Shambaathi, to prove who can fly high by touching the sun first.

They were flying very high, but the burning of the sun was so severe that Jatayu cried in pain. To protect Jatayu, his brother Shambaathi, flew over him and protected him with its wings.

The result – his entire feathers from its wings were burned away by the sun. He fell down from the sky and from that moment onwards he was living in that hillock near the southern tip of India.

He called these Vanaras – Then they told him about the story of Sita, who was abducted by Ravana.

Shambaathi told the monkeys, “With my eye-sight, I am able to see Sita in Sri Lanka”.

In Joy and Delight, the monkeys shouted saying the mantra repeatedly “SREE RAM JAYA RAM JAYA JAYA RAM”.

To the amazement and surprise of the monkeys, the wings of Shambaathi, grew.

That is the power of this mantra – revival and renewal.

In Chemotherapy, even normal cells are killed (along with cancer cells). Revival and renewal of those cells can be done only by this mantra.

The body has a self-defense mechanism. Whenever there is a tumor or cancer, immediately it will produce killer cells. But, when cancer develops, the killer cells are absent.

This Rama Mantra can work as a killer cell and kill the cancer cells.

Story of Kubera

Naran S Balakumar

Many knew about Kubera – the keeper of wealth, and many keep his picture in the house without knowing the significance of the picture.

We also know that Kubera gave loan to Mahavishnu – Lord Venkatachalapathy.

We do lot of Poojas for Kubera thinking that Kubera will give the money to you. He will never give money to you. But, he will give it only to Mahavishnu.

What about Kubera Mudra?

When Kubera himself is not going to give you money, do you think Kubera Mudra will produce money for you?

You believe in certain things. One day you will do Kubera Mudra, and will get money through some source. You will think then it is due to it.

Even if you do the Kubera Mudra for 24 hours, your pot (of prosperity) will never increase in size, while it will increase due to the ‘I am sorry’ mantra.

What is the mentality of Kubera?

There is another story in Bhavishya Purana, where Mahavishnu asks Kubera for money with willingness to pay interest for it and even today he is still paying interest.

Kubera replied to Mahavishnu, “Oh Lord! This is not my money. This is yours. You take this money. I am not giving you any money. Don’t throw me in the hell by saying that I am giving the money to you. There is only one source for the money. You’re the source, you are giving the money and you are taking the money”.

Have the Kubera mantra and make so many expenses happily.

That’s the significance of Kubera Mantra. You cannot pester him for money as he is not going to give it to you.

Kubera staunchly believed that the divine is giving the money. We should get that belief.

Without having that belief, if you keep complaining somebody has failed to give you money, you will only ruin your life. You will not get that money either.

Money is given by him (the Divine) and money is taken by him. You can’t do anything about it.

Showing Love to Inanimate Objects

Naran S Balakumar

One thing is gratitude. Another thing is how much importance should be given even to an inanimate object.

Suppose the ink in the ball-pen is over, we throw it off and take another pen.

One day Kadsa, the Mother’s companion, showed a handkerchief to Mother, saying ‘It was too torn’ and threw it off, as we would have done.

The Mother told her, “Hey! It served me so long and so nicely. And you are throwing it away”.

Saying these words, the Mother jumped from her chair, picked up the handkerchief and kept it on her lap.

Even to inanimate objects, that is the love we have to give.

They are there to serve you. That doesn’t mean they don’t have consciousness.

Every article in this universe – whether animate or inanimate has got divine consciousness. We only have to search for divine in everything.

Are we to thank the human beings only?

After thanking any person, thank the Divine, who have sent the person to you. Then only it becomes whole and complete.

Why we need to thank the divine

A person might come and help you. Divine alone has sent that person to you.

Remember the Hungarian story: http://www.reachnaran.com/love-lost-and-found-an-unbelievable-story/

Today you are meeting here me only because of the divine, which wants only certain people to attend this workshop.

Humbleness – Hallmark of The Divine

Naran S Balakumar

The Mother’s Privilege

A disciple asks, “Mother in what way I can show gratitude to you?”

She replied, “To me this is a privilege for which I have no right. It is the divine”.

Even though Sri Aurobindo calls her supreme mother, she replies “This is a privilege for which I have no right”.

That’s the reason behind my saying that Divine in the form of Lord Krishna lovingly and humbly looks at you.

Divine never says I am divine. The love and the humbleness is the hallmark of the divine.

The disciple at the top

During the Kurukshetra war, Hanuman asked Krishna “Can I be at your top?” Hanuman previously was at the feet of Lord Rama.

That’s why Hanuman is at the top of the chariot of Krishna in the form of a flag.

That’s the humbleness of Krishna, for that matter, all divine beings.

Benefits of Listening to Story of Rama’s Pilgrimage to the Forest

Naran S Balakumar

When to listen?

  1. To handle any disappointments and failures in life.
  2. When you are not able to accept something because of anger, or in general when you are seething with anger/rage/fury, listen to the story and do tapping (EFT).
  3. When you are worrying too much
  4. Basically it is a story to accept what is happening to your life. This will bring in mental healing in you, which is very essential to life.

What happens then?

When we suffer we feel why we have to go through it.

However, after going through the bad experiences, we realise what happened was right. Thus, behind unhappiness we can find divine order as well as happiness.

Seeking pleasure and avoiding pain is the nature of mind. What is painful today may turn out to be pleasure tomorrow.

Therefore, accept totally whatever happens in your life. The mere acceptance will bring in a state of calm – which is essential to plan the next course of action.

Nobody can escape from doing something. Do whatever after accepting it.

A mental state of unhappiness will only bring in more unhappiness. To be happy, accept and be in a happy state, so as to find happiness in the events that occurs outside us.

What we can learn from Rama and Krishna

Naran S Balakumar

Rama accepted everybody and everything that happened in his life. He had the attitude that let whatever happens does happen.

Tonight he comes to know that tomorrow he is going to be crowned. However, very next day he was asked to go to forest and live there for 14 years.

In both the situations, he remained composed with no reactions from his side.

Even after Sita was lost, he had the confidence to somehow find her.

However, if it would have been us, we will search for two to three days and on the fourth day we will return home giving up on her. Any human being will only do that.

Whether he knew there was a solution to that problem or he accepted whatever happened in his life, nobody can tell that.

While Rama shows to us how to accept whatever that happens in our lives, Krishna shows how to handle our lives beautifully.

Krishna’s Best Friend

Naran S Balakumar

He had only one friend Uddhava.

The Mahabharata war is over. Krishna goes back to his home country. He had become old and was in his death-bed.

He started preparing himself for death by going into meditation. If we are in our death bed, what we will do?

We would express our interest to meet our dear and near ones. Krishna expresses his desire only to meet his friend Uddhava.

Uddhava comes to see Krishna. Krishna told him that he is passing away and said his final goodbye to Uddhava without having any sadness or remorse.

Immediately, Uddhava falls at the feet of Krishna and started crying. He told Krishna that he will not let him go.

Krishna starts preaching what is known as Uddhava Gita.

He said, “Nothing is permanent in this world. Today something will be with one person. Tomorrow it will be in somebody else hand. Neither you lost it nor did he get it.

“This is the law of the world. Change is the only permanent thing in the world. Everybody is bound within this law.

“Don’t say this mine and that is mine. Stop the crying first. Nothing belongs to you”.

Uddhava replied to Krishna, “I agree with whatever you say. Can you please give me the peacock feather you are wearing?”

This is the difference between man and god.

If I have something of god’s then I can see him – is the thinking of human mind. But the god says you can see me in everything.

A marriage not a bother anymore

A couple approached Naran S. Balakumar for their problems seems to be never ending.  They were fighting like dogs and cats.

Balakumar narrated the following story from Panchatantra and asked them to tap while listening to the story:

There lived a dog and cat in a village. They fought like hell.

One day, it was raining heavily. They took a shelter in a Mandapam (a common place for discussing and resting for travellers).

The weather was too cold for the cat. There was one blanket available. Therefore, they have no choice but to use the same blanket. They covered themselves with the blanket.

They realized that they have to be together to solve any problem in life.

The couple did the tapping for few days and they could resolve the problems between them to a greater extent.
